Some holidays are not built for relaxation. Whilst some most certainly are about a bit of prized R n R, some are more about action, serious sightseeing, and getting the most out of a packed destination. Unfortunately, there is the constraint of time, which means you seriously need to know what you want to do, when you want to do it, and how!
Sounds exhausting, doesn’t it?
Well to truly get the most out of these kinds of action holidays, you need to plan, plan, plan! I’m one of life’s great planners, I’m an avid list maker, and I don’t do anything unless I know where it is and how I’m getting to it. It might sound boring and not very spontaneous, but at least I see what I want to see, without the ‘oh we didn’t have the time’ excuse. See, even planning has an upside!
Nobody is saying that your holiday must be planned down to every second, and one way to make sure you have at least a little guidance is to draw up an itinerary. We did this on a recent visit to Florida, because we wanted to pack into our two weeks as much as possible, and with certain parks opening late on certain days, fireworks on other days, and later closes throw into the mix too, we didn’t know if we were coming or going without the help of a trusty plan.
Tiring holidays usually mean full up camera memory cards, aching feet, tired eyes, but big smiles, so it’s sensible to be well prepared before you set foot on the plane. It’s important to be well-rested before any holiday, to really get the most out of it, however it’s never been more important in this case. A night in one of many airport hotels will certainly start your holiday in the best possible way, meaning a good night’s sleep and no early morning wake-up call, with a trip down the motorway at an ungodly hour. Holiday Extras Dublin Airport hotels are fantastic value and there’s so many to choose from.
Before our holiday to Florida, I booked us into a hotel, and my flying and airport experience as a whole was so much more positive as a result. We stayed in the Bewleys hotel at Dublin Airport and had a great experience, for service and convenience, the price is a total steal!
The best way to plan a busy holiday is to write down exactly what you want to see. For us, it was the Disney parks on the days when special events were on, such as fireworks. We then wrote down any extras, such as a space shuttle launch planned for a particular day when we were there, and worked around that. During our holiday, our itinerary did alter a little, but we had basic guidance, and that’s what it’s all about – no need to be rigid. Alternatively, my friend did the total opposite and decided to ‘wing it’. It was a total disaster as they never got out of the hotel before midday, after disagreeing on what they wanted to do that particular day, and then half of it was gone. She is now a firm believer in the itinerary!
So the next time you decide to ditch the beach holiday for something a little more action-packed, remember to embrace that notepad and pen, and be sure to squeeze every last second out of your time away.
