Christmas in Amsterdam: 4 Christmas markets you must see

Christmas in Amsterdam is beautiful, brilliant and buzzing and if it’s an air of magic you seek – look no further. The nights are long, dark and full of mystery as Amsterdam presents its finest unique, quirky and festive markets. Snacks, shopping or just some good old seasonal fun are all in abundance here and there’s lots of very good reasons people just can’t keep away.   1. City Centre Neighbourhood Markets

Leidseplein and Koningsplein are home to an array of market stalls and the ice rink at Leidseplein stays put until early January – giving you plenty of time to get your skates on. You’ll find pretty much everything festive and wonderful here and you’ll also come across the neighbourhood markets which run throughout the season. If your shopping for lovely original gifts then these stalls will not disappoint and like most markets in Amsterdam – it is not overly expensive and even if you are not buying, the place is hiving and makes for a lovely day out.

 

  1. Flower Market

It has to be seen to be believed – Christmas trees of every size by their dozens! Bloemenmarkt is a seasonal hub, and that’s not all. The Christmas Palace is located alongside the market and is a complete haven of festive goodies. Oh and it’s also the world’s only floating flower market – making it a must see any time of the year, but maybe more so when it is full of festive wonder. Don’t miss this market if you have an interest in flowers and don’t miss it if you’re seeking to experience some seasonal wonder.

 

  1. Food and Design Markets

The Sunday Markets get festive this Christmas and it is a sight to behold – the Funky Sinterklass Market (November 30th) and the Funky Xmas Market (14 December) are simply seasonal must sees. Fortnightly food and design market will be held in the De Hallen complex and it will take a festive twist for the Local Good Christmas market. This is a must for foodies everywhere. And if it’s organic treats and sustainable gifts you seek, head to the Pure Winter Market on 14 December (Amstelpark) & 21 December (Park Frankendael).

And if you’re fortunate to be staying in Amsterdam this Christmas, held right in the centre of Amsterdam, you’ll find the heart of Christmas in Amsterdam – that is, the Winter Market Amsterdam.
