The Perfect Date

April 25th.

Did you know it’s the perfect date?

It’s not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket.

It was exactly that kind of day in Massachusetts today, so I’d have to agree!

During the day, I was finally able to finish a project I’ve been working on for a couple weeks. Long story short it was basically compiling pages of reports and feedback into a nice, concise powerpoint that highlighted particular observations and commented on majority opinion.

The entire process reminded me of researching, outlining, and writing papers for my History classes… way back when.

And I felt the same sense of accomplishment upon the project’s completion today.

You see? Many things you learn to do in college are very applicable after graduation.

3 miles, easy

I wanted to go for the trifecta and knock out another 9 miles today, but then I thought about the bigger picture.

The bigger picture is that I want to do a longer long run this week. Most likely 12 miles, either during the week or on the weekend. I realized that if I took a chill pill on the miles today, I’d set myself up to be in better shape to actually enjoy it.

As such, I took it easy today and ran short.

The brief synopsis: I probably ran too fast, the sun behind the clouds was so welcomed, the weather was ideal (it was the perfect date after all), I love being outside, the twilight hour is wonderful and scary all at the same time, my hair ended up in a messy braid inspired by Katniss Everdeen, I did a few fartleks throughout, there was slugging on the uphill and flying on the downhill, I hit my limit because I thought I might get sick by the end (I didn’t, luckily), my knees weren’t as stiff as they were yesterday, I didn’t have any time to even get in the zone.

It was just too fast and just too short.

Need more road time, more run time.

However. Right after I was done, it also got really ominous outside, which would have scared the heck out of me if I was still running.

Give me 80 degrees, no breeze, snow, ice, hail, rain, sleet, humidity… but I won’t run in thunder and lightning.

I’m also glad I kept the miles short tonight in anticipation of more miles to come this week.

Can I get a WHAT WHAT.

Anyway. Today was a good day.

“Opening Day” for the NYC Marathon, friends receiving word that they received an entry for NYCM, chocolate milk in the fridge, an article that made me ponder stuff and be inspired, and a brand new episode of Revenge.

And, today… all you need is a light jacket.

What’s your perfect date? What good stuff happened in your world today?

Nice job on doing a quick 3 miler, and reigning it in. And for wearing a light jacket. Love that quote!!

  4. That weather sounds wonderful. Unfortunately in Ohio the perfect date was rainy. Sometimes three miles easy is all you needs. :)

    GAAAHHHH OMG
Why is Revenge so crazy?!?! Ahhh.
Obviously I’m watching it right now. I feel like nobody watches it and they don’t know what I’m talking about when I say how crazy it is.

This is why I read your blog every day. You are so positive and fun!

This morning was good for me because I ran 4 easy miles, and when I compared to this time last year, it was a minute per mile faster! YAY!
